Return to Recap
On the game:
|| Head Coach Sherri Coale
"I just continue to be proud and impressed with these ladies that are on my basketball team. They move ahead unfazed. When (Aaryn Ellenberg) goes down in the second half, they did not panic they just turned up the intensity. They paid attention to detail and had a tremendous run in the second half. I keep saying this, but, these guys are fun to coach. No matter what happens they believe that they can win games. That proved to be true tonight."
On overcoming the slow start:
"I did not think that we were playing in a lackluster way, which I thought we did in Fort Worth. I thought we were lacking energy and passive (in Fort Worth). That was not the case tonight. We just did not make shots. We settled, we shot quickly, we rushed everything a little bit. They came down and made big plays, and you look up and we are in a hole. Again, these guys did not panic. They would get a stop and then go get a score and string a few of them together. Next thing you know, we were right back in it."
On Sharane Campbell's evolving game:
"Sharane (Campbell) is very self-conscious. After every game she wants to know what she can do better and what areas she can improve. I thought the biggest difference tonight was her defensive intensity. She has proven it time and time again that when she gets after it on the defensive end, it bleeds into her offense. I thought after she came out and then when back into the game her defensive energy was entirely different. She sort of shocks herself sometimes, I think, with what she can do. The sky is the limit for (Sharane). You can tell. If you have to guard her at the 3-point line because she is five of eight, then you're in trouble as a defender because she can get to the rim. She has an unbelievable first step. That really puts defenders in a quandary. I was really glad about the way she responded. She did not do well out of the gate but she responded to criticism and challenge, and she went back in and was a completely different player than when the game started."
|| Senior F Joanna McFarland
On the team's second-half performance without Aaryn Ellenberg:
"We did go on a run right when she went out. I remember looking up at the clock and thinking, 'wow, we have 17 minutes left and Aaryn is hurt?' Then we just went off and we didn't even really notice that she wasn't on the court; and that makes a big statement about our team right there."
On TCU substituing multiple post players:
"When you're in the heat of the battle, you're just playing hard. If they were getting tired, I didn't notice."
On responding to adversity:
"It's necessity. We need everybody to be on their A-game every night for us to do what we want to do. Everybody has to chip in and be completely committed."
On the game:
|| Head Coach Jeff Mittie
"I felt good about our start. Oklahoma really locked down on us after that and we just had trouble getting shots. As good of a start as we had we ended up shooting 28 percent in the first half. So we had trouble from the first four or five minutes of the game. We had some open looks, then after that we couldn't get open."
