Sooners Roll the Competition at Lone Star Duals

Oklahoma picked up three wins on Saturday at the Lone Star Duals in Arlington, Texas.

ARLINGTON, Texas -- The seventh-ranked University of Oklahoma wrestling team coasted through the Lone Star Duals in Arlington, Texas, on Saturday by dominating three opponents to improve its season dual record to 9-1.

The Sooners, who never trailed, began the day with a decisive victory over No. 8 American (22-14) and followed that by overpowering the likes of The Citadel (31-3) and Harvard (33-8). Oklahoma won each dual by an average score of 29-8 and claimed 25-of-30 total bouts.

Three non-starters saw action for the Sooners. Heavyweight transfer Elijah Madison saw his first action as a Sooner and defeated The Citadel’s Luke Johnson, 5-1. Greg Cannon and Dustin Reed each went 1-0 after defeating their opponents from the Citadel.

Sooner starters that went undefeated at the event include: Zack Bailey (3-0), Tyler Caldwell (3-0), Erich Schmidtke (3-0), Jarrod Patterson (2-0), Jordan Keller (2-0) and Nathan Fernandez (2-0). 

The competition gets stiffer as Oklahoma opens Big 12 action at No. 16. Iowa State Friday, Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. Oklahoma will attempt to snap an eight-match Cyclone win streak dating back to 2003.
