NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma men's tennis team was forced to withdraw its players from the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships due to inclement weather in the northeast.

"It's disappointing for the guys not to be able to compete this weekend in New York because of the weather," head coach John Roddick said. "It was a great accomplishment to have that many players qualify for the tournament. We'll just have to finish up practice in the fall working hard. We look forward to [the spring]."

The four Sooners who earned spots in the tournament returned to Norman Thursday after a snowstorm prevented completing travel to Flushing, N.Y., site of the championships. The tournament began Thursday morning with the first round of men's and women's doubles.

OU's Guillermo Alcorta earned a spot in the 32-player singles draw and the 20-team doubles competition with partner Axel Alvarez Llamas after the duo won the central region title.  The preseason ITA No. 1 doubles duo of Costin Paval and Dane Webb also qualified.
