NORMAN, Okla. -- Five Sooners competed on the second day of qualifying at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American Championships at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla. Qualifying rounds conclude Wednesday, Oct. 3.
Freshman Axel Alvarez Llamas defeated Michigan's Shaun Bernstein 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the second round of singles qualifying. He faces Southern California's Roberto Quiroz Wednesday morning.
Sooners Leonard Stakhovsky, ITA No. 57 Dane Webb and John Warden lost in singles Tuesday. Stakhovsky fell to North Florida's Moritz Buerchner 2-6, 6-4, 6-2, Webb to Boise State's Andrew Bettles, 6-4, 7-6 (5) and Warden to Drake's Robin Goodman, 6-2, 6-3.
Sooner Peerakit Siributwong competed in the consolation round, defeating Vanderbilt's Jeff Offerdahl 6-0, 6-3.
Two Sooner tandems also played Tuesday. The duo of Alvarez Llamas and Webb beat Illinois State's Erik Brunskog and Alex Palaez 8-5. They face North Florida's Moritz Buerchner and Norbert Nemcsek Wednesday afternoon.
Siributwong and Stakhovsky fell to University of California at Los Angeles's Dennis Mkrtchian and Clay Thompson 8-4.
No. 28 Guillermo Alcorta takes the court in the main draw Thursday, Oct. 4.
