NORMAN, Okla.-- The eighth-ranked Oklahoma men's tennis team opens the spring season Tuesday, Jan. 22, when it hosts Wichita State at the Gregg Wadley Indoor Tennis Pavilion at 5 p.m.

"We are very excited about the upcoming season," OU head coach John Roddick said. "We have had a great start to practice and we are excited about the opportunity to achieve our goals this year."

Three Sooners are ranked in the ITA Top 125 Singles, led by senior Guilleromo Alcorta, who debuts at No. 36 after winning the ITA Central Region Championship in the fall. Sophomore Dane Webb ranks 71st and senior Costin Paval 103rd.

Paval and Webb also represent the ITA's No. 12 doubles pair.

Under Roddick, the Sooners are 3-0 against the Shockers and have not given up a point in those matches.

Following the opener versus Wichita State, the Sooners host matches of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend. Oklahoma meets No. 33 Memphis Saturday, Jan. 26, at 2 p.m. and will face either No. 28 Harvard or No. 30 Notre Dame Sunday at 12 p.m.
