LINCOLN, Neb. – The 26th-ranked Oklahoma men’s tennis team defeated No. 38 Nebraska, 5-2, on Friday in the Sooners’ final regular season match.

Oklahoma (14-6, 3-3 Big 12) snapped a two-match losing streak with the win over the Huskers. OU has defeated five teams ranked in the top 42.

“We played a solid match tonight,” OU Head Coach John Roddick said. “We got a little unlucky in doubles but rebounded well in singles after winning the first five sets.”

The Sooners fell behind early after Nebraska won the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions.

Costin Paval and Peerakit Siributwong, ranked No. 78 nationally, claimed OU’s sole doubles win on the day at the No. 2 spot.  The Sooner duo defeated Nebraska’s Calin Paar and Benedikt Lindheim, 8-5.

OU won five singles points to clinch the win over the Huskers.

“We did a great job closing them out at the end,” Roddick added.  “Especially (Lawrence) Formentera.”

The Sooners won three of their five singles matches in straight sets, while Formentera secured the victory after winning the third set against Nebraska’s Sebastian Florczyk at the No. 5 spot, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.

Ionut Belelu, ranked No. 32 nationally, defeated Nebraska’s Christopher Aumueller at the No. 1 position, 6-3, 6-3, Siributwon topped Andre Stenger of Nebraska, 6-3, 7-5, while Tsvetan Mihov beat NU’s Tom Blackwell at the No. 6 spot, 6-4, 6-1.
