Aggies Drop Sooners in Big 12 Opener

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - No. 19 Oklahoma dropped its Big 12 opener to 17th-ranked Texas A&M, 5-2, at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station, Texas.

OU (12-3, 1-0) fell behind early, 1-0, after dropping the doubles portion of the match.

Freshman Lawrence Formentera teamed with senior Blake Boswell to claim the Sooners only doubles victory. The Sooner duo downed A&M's Marcus Lunt and Alexis Klegou, 8-1. The tandem has won three-straight and is 7-1 on the year.

Oklahoma looked to regroup in singles action, but the Aggies remained poised and took matches at the No. 1, 2, 3, and 4 positions.  

Formentera evened the score, 1-1, after he routed the Aggies Alberto Bautista in straight sets at the No. 5 spot, 6-0, 6-4. Formentera has won 10 of his last eight matches and boasts an overall record of 12-3.

A&M (12-4, 1-0) took a 2-0 lead after Alexis Klegou defeated the Sooners Costin Paval in identical sets, 6-2, at the No. 3 position.

Alexey Grigorov gave the Aggies a 3-1 advantage after he took down OU's David Pultr at the No. 4 spot.

The Aggies clinched the match, 4-1, at the No. 1 position where No. 21 Austin Krajicek handled No. 20 Andrie Daescu, 6-3, 6-4.

Sophomore George Chanturia scored the Sooners second point after he dropped the Aggies Niall Angus, 6-1, 3-6, 6-2. Chanturia is 10-3 on the season.
