NORMAN, Okla. – No. 44 Oklahoma (5-1) rallied to beat 32nd-ranked Oklahoma State Sunday, 4-3, inside the Gregg Wadley Tennis Pavilion. The victory marks OU’s first win over the Cowboys since 1995.

“I know for the guys that have been around here getting this win means a lot to them and it means a lot to me too,” OU head coach John Roddick said. “It was a hard fought match and they are a good team. They are going to continue to beat some good teams and we have to play them again so we don’t want to get carried away.”

For the second-straight match junior Ionut Beleleu clinched the victory for the Sooners at the No. 2 position. Beleleu won his first set, 6-2, but dropped his second set 7-6 to OSU’s Anton Bobytski. However, Beleleu came up big in the third set, winning it, 6-3.

“He’s known to do that,” said Roddick. “He doesn’t panic when it comes down to him. He likes it and as a coach you are about as comfortable as you can possibly be in that position.“

The Sooners started out the match slow, dropping the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles positions and giving the Cowboys an early 1-0 lead heading into singles action.

OSU jumped ahead 2-0 after Oleksandr Nedovyesov defeated OU’s Andrei Daescu.

Sophomore George Chanturia gained the Sooners first point after he beat the Cowboy’s Maxi Kuhn, 6-1, 7-6.

Oklahoma fell behind 3-1, after junior David Pultr fell to the Cowboy’s Ilija Martinoski.

Lawrence Formentera pulled OU within one, 3-2, after he rallied to defeat OSU’s Eric West at the No. 5 position, 6-7, 6-2, 6-2.

OU tied the match at three-all after freshman Costin Paval downed OSU’s Ilija Martinoski, 5-7, 6-3, 6-2.

Next up, the Sooners host No. 37 Minnesota Friday, Feb. 26, at 6 p.m.
