Tennis Wins First Road Match

The No. 8 Sooners beat the No. 33 Indiana Hoosiers 4-3.

NORMAN, Okla. -- The No. 8 University of Oklahoma men's tennis team (4-0) won its first road match of the season 4-3 over No. 33 Indiana University (1-5) at the IU Indoor Tennis Center in Bloomington, Ind., Friday, Feb. 1. 

"We did a great job of fighting through a tough indoor road match today," OU head coach John Roddick said. "The conditions were difficult and we did a good job dealing with the fast courts and pulling out a win." 

The Hoosiers snatched the first team point after Isade Juneau and Sam Monette topped Costin Paval and Dane Webb 8-6, and Josh MacTaggart and Daniel Bednarczyk beat Guillermo Alcorta and Axel Alvarez Llamas 8-2. Indiana claimed another point after Monette defeated Webb 6-2, 6-4 in singles. 

After that, OU battled back to win a tight match. 

Paval won the first point for the Sooners, defeating Juneau 6-4, 6-3. Leonard Stakhovsky and Alvarez Llamas also secured wins for the Sooners. 

Alcorta sealed the win for OU, beating MacTaggart 7-6 (6), 2-6, 6-3. 

The Sooners continue their road weekend against No. 9 Kentucky at the Boone Tennis Center in Lexington, Ky.
