NORMAN, Okla. -- The OU men’s gymnastics team is back atop the polls with this week’s No. 1 ranking as released on Tuesday morning.  It marks the first time this year that the Sooners have held the top spot after being ranked fourth in the preseason and as high as No. 2 the past two weeks.

OU has been ranked No. 1 in each of the last six seasons and in eight out of Mark Williams’ 10 years at the helm.

The Sooners vaulted to the No. 1 spot after improving to 8-0 on the season with an impressive win against No. 6 Minnesota and the Texas All-Stars last weekend.

In addition, Oklahoma currently owns the top spot on floor (61.633) and is second behind No. 2 Stanford on rings (59.267) and vault (63.750).

Individually, freshman Jacob Dalton is the nation's top all-around gymnast with an average of 88.633 and junior Steven Legendre is the fourth with an average of 87.850.

The Sooners also currently hold the top spot on two apparatuses with Steven Legendre on floor (16.033) and Jacob Dalton on vault (16.167).

This weekend Oklahoma returns to action against MPSF Conference foes No. 2 Stanford and No. 9 Nebraska on March 7 in Lincoln, Neb. The meet will get underway at 2 p.m. (CT) at the Devaney Center.

Last season, the Sooners met the Cardinal in the regular season for a top-two showdown with OU finishing on top 357.850-356.400.

The OU women’s gymnastics team has also held the top spot in two different weeks this season.  The No. 2 Sooner women returns to Norman for its most anticipated home meet in program history in a battle with No. 1 Alabama on Friday, March 5, at 7 p.m.
