NORMAN, Okla. -- University of Oklahoma gymnast Alec Robin was named the MPSF Gymnast of the Week Tuesday after his six career highs led No. 3 OU to a 436.550-420.200 win Saturday at No. 8 Iowa.
Robin posted career-highs on five of six events, in addition to a career-high and first-place 85.400 in the all-around. He recorded career highs on floor (15.300), pommel horse (13.800) and rings (13.200) and tied his career highs on vault (14.800) and high bar (14.550). He added a 13.750 on parallel bars.
The sophomore from Calabasas, Calif., earned his first career conference honor and the second straight MPSF award of the year for the Sooners. Fellow sophomore Jacoby Rubin earned the weekly award last week.
"This was by far Alec's best performance as a gymnast at OU," head coach Mark Williams said. "He scored a couple of career highs in addition to his best score in the all-around. Competing for the team, and hitting well throughout the competition, I was really excited. His performance was pretty impressive for a guy who normally specializes on only a few events."
Robin helped OU post its largest winning margin of the season and win every event as a team. The Sooners claimed individual titles on five of the six events including Robin's meet-high score on floor and meet-high-tying score on vault.
After opening the season with four straight meets, Oklahoma will take this weekend off before hosting No. 6 Minnesota in its first home meet of the season. Ticket information and a list of promotions for all home meets at the OU Field House can be found here.
