NORMAN, Okla. -- University of Oklahoma senior Will Kropp (-1) sits in 20th place after Monday's 36 holes of competition at the 2012 Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic in El Paso, Texas.
The 38th annual tournament, held at the 6,781-yard, par-71 El Paso Country Club, features 23 of the world's elite amateur golfers, including 16 of the top 100, according to the R&A World Amateur Golf Rankings.
After scoring a 73 (+2) in Monday's first round, Kropp improved his second-round score by five strokes, recording five birdies and posting a 3-under 71 score.
"I gave myself the opportunity to play well," Kropp said, "I just didn't convert on the greens. But overall I was pleased with how I hit the ball. I just need the putts to drop tomorrow."
Kropp, who placed fifth in Sunday's PING Putting Contest, is the only Big 12 participant in the contest.
The Edmond, Okla., product is four strokes out of the top 10 and trails frontrunners Kevin Penner of UNLV and defending champion Cory Whitsett of Alabama (both are at -11) by 10 strokes.
