NORMAN, Okla. -- University of Oklahoma golfer Will Kropp was named to the 2012 Division I PING All-America Team as an honorable mention selection, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced Wednesday.
Kropp saw action in seven team events this past season as a junior, recording a 74.43 scoring average. He posted a season-best ninth-place finish out of 155 competitors at the NCAA Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif., by carding a three-round 214 (+2).
"I preach all the time about getting All-American plaques up on our wall," OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. "Will was able to do that by playing great at the right time at the NCAA Championships."
Kropp added a 12th-place finish out of 82 competitors at the UTSA/Oak Hills invitational in February. His third-round 67 in the event was the third-lowest 18-hole score by a Sooner this season.
An Edmond, Okla., native who began his career at the University of Georgia, Kropp finished the 2011-12 season with one top-10 and three-top 20 finishes.
The GCAA honored a total of 31 collegiate golfers on the honorable mention list. The top 15 finishers from the 165-competitor NCAA Championships field earned automatic placement on the All-America team.
"Will did a great job for us at the national championship," Hybl said," and I am excited for him to continue his momentum this summer and for him to help lead us to even better things next year."
