NORMAN, Okla. -- University of Oklahoma golfers Abraham Ancer and Riley Pumphrey were named to the 2012 Division I Ping All-Central Region Team, as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America Wednesday.
Ancer, two seasons removed from Odessa Junior College, is receiving the honor for the second time. The honor for Pumphrey is his first.
The duo of Ancer and Pumphrey has paced the Sooners all season. Leading OU to this week’s NCAA Championships in California, the pair has participated in a combined 73 rounds of golf, earning 16 of the team's 29 top-20 finishes.
Ancer, who was also named an honorable mention Ping All-American last year, owns a team-best 72.54 scoring average this season. The junior has been the team's top performer in five events this season, earning a season-best share of third place at the Big 12 Championship. He leads the team with two top-five, four top-10 and nine top-20 finishes in a team-high 14 events. Ancer also leads the team with eight rounds in the 60s.
Pumphrey is second on the team with a 72.75 scoring average and recorded season-best eighth-place finishes at the UTSA/Oak Hills and Linger Longer Invitationals. The senior has been the team's top performer in eight of his 10 team events and has registered 12 rounds of par or better on the season. Last July, the GCAA named Pumphrey as one of the 138 Division I All-American Scholars.
In April, Ancer and Pumphrey were both named to the 2012 Academic All-Big 12 Team.
The GCAA honored a total of 155 collegiate golfers across six regions.
