Senior Riley Pumphrey named academic all-conference for third year.
NORMAN, Okla. - Three members of the No. 32 University of Oklahoma men's golf team were among 22 student-athletes named to the 2012 Academic All-Big 12 Men's Golf Team, the league office announced Wednesday.
Seniors Riley Pumphrey (economics) and Ben Klaus (multidisciplinary studies), along with junior Abraham Ancer (multidisciplinary studies), each earned first-team honors, maintaining a 3.20 or better GPA. Sixteen male student-athletes from the conference's 10 universities were named to the first team.
"One of the biggest goals we have here at Oklahoma, in particular on this golf team, is to excel in the classroom," OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. "I am really proud of our guys for earning All-Big 12 on the academic side."
Pumphrey, the No. 68-ranked collegiate golfer in the country by Golfweek/Sagarin, received the honor for the third year.
