NORMAN, Okla. - Three members of the No. 32 University of Oklahoma men's golf team were among 22 student-athletes named to the 2012 Academic All-Big 12 Men's Golf Team, the league office announced Wednesday.

Seniors Riley Pumphrey (economics) and Ben Klaus (multidisciplinary studies), along with junior Abraham Ancer (multidisciplinary studies), each earned first-team honors, maintaining a 3.20 or better GPA. Sixteen male student-athletes from the conference's 10 universities were named to the first team.

"One of the biggest goals we have here at Oklahoma, in particular on this golf team, is to excel in the classroom," OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. "I am really proud of our guys for earning All-Big 12 on the academic side."

Pumphrey, the No. 68-ranked collegiate golfer in the country by Golfweek/Sagarin, received the honor for the third year.

To qualify for the Academic All-Big 12 Team, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher, either cumulatively or over the two previous semesters, and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible. First-team members have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team includes those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

The Sooners are in action at the Aggie Invitational this Saturday and Sunday in Bryan, Texas.
