NORMAN, Okla. -- The 26th-ranked University of Oklahoma men's golf team shot 14 over par in the second round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters in Las Vegas, Nev., to finish the day in 13th place. The prestigious tournament features some of the nation's top squads and is played at the Southern Highlands Golf Club, a 7,510-yard, par-72 course.
OU recorded a two-round 600 (+24) against an elite 15-team field that features all teams ranked in the Golfweek/Sagarin top 50, including 11 of the top 13 squads. The Sooners sit 35 strokes behind leader and No. 1-ranked California.
"We didn't play very well today," OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. "There's really no easy way to say it. To be honest, I think we have guys that are feeling pretty good mentally but physically are not doing things at the right time. We are playing some of the harder holes great and some of the easier holes not so well."
Junior Michael Schoolcraft followed a first-round 73 (+1) with a second-round 70 (-2) on Saturday, placing him in a tie for seventh place at 1 under par, four strokes off the lead. Schoolcraft carded three birdies and just one bogie on the day.
After starting the day at 1 over par, Abraham Ancer shot a 4-over-par 76 in the second round. The senior, who is 5 over par for the tournament, is tied for 36th place heading into Sunday's final round.
Freshman Beau Titsworth carded a second-round 77 (+5) to finish the day at 8 over par. Senior Will Kropp (+12) shot a second-round 7 over par, while junior Eduardo Castiello recorded a two-round 161 (+17).
The third and final round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. CT Sunday with OU's tee times starting at 11:12 a.m. from hole No. 10. The Sooners will be paired with No. 2 Texas and No. 11 Georgia. Live scoring will be available at GolfStat.com.
