NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma’s men’s golf squad finished in eighth place after Wednesday’s final round at the 12-team Gifford Collegiate Championship in San Martin, Calif. The Sooners shot a third-round 366 (+11), their best of the tournament, at the 7,169-yard, par-71 CordeValle Resort.

With Augusta State hot on its heels, OU held on to the eighth spot on the final day and fended off the defending national champion by four strokes. The Sooners carded a +49 over the 54-hole event.

“We had good production today out of [Ryan] Sirman and [Will] Kropp, which really held us together as a team,” said OU men’s head golf coach Ryan Hybl.

Sirman (+4, +3, -1), a senior, and Kropp (+5, +2, -1), a sophomore, led the way for the Sooners Wednesday as each shot under par for the first time this week. Sirman recorded five birdies on the day and shot a 1-under 70. Kropp, who started on the back nine, also shot a final-round 70. After double-bogeying the 15th, Kropp recorded three birdies with no bogeys on the front side. Both Sirman and Kropp finished the tournament tied for 16th.

Sophomore Abraham Ancer (+5, +2, +2) also had a strong final round with his 2-over 73. Ancer, who finished the day with three bogeys and one birdie, finished tied for 23rd.

Senior Liam Logan (+5, +5, +5) shot 5-over for the third day in a row and finished tied for 51st. Junior Riley Pumphrey (+5, +3, +6) shot 6-over in the final round and finished tied for 48th, while freshman Michael Schoolcraft (+7, +4, +12) finished tied for 67th.

“It’s not exactly the week we were wanting, but positives are there and we have a lot to work on in the off-season,” said Hybl.

The Gifford Collegiate Championship ends OU's fall season. The Sooners will resume play on Feb. 14-15 at the Oak Hills Invitational in San Antonio Texas.
