NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma men's golf team recorded a 5-over-par 289 in the final round of the Mason Rudolph Championship on Sunday to finish in second place at the par-71, 7,100-yard Vanderbilt Legends Golf Club in Franklin, Tenn.

The Sooners entered the final round of the 15-team event trailing Vanderbilt by one stroke, but could not overcome the Commodores on their home course as VU posted a nine-shot win. OU’s three-round 854 (+2) was four strokes better than third-place Mississippi.

"What a day," OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. "We never applied any pressure to Vandy all day and made it easy for them."

Michael Schoolcraft concluded a solid tournament with his best round at the event. The junior recorded six birdies on the day, including three over the last four holes en route to a 4-under 67. Schoolcraft moved up five spots to a share of third place, his best finish since tying for third at the David Toms Intercollegiate last fall.

"Mike had a great round today," Hybl said. "I think he is ready to take that next step with his game."

Abraham Ancer, who led the event at 7 under through 36 holes, failed to find any rhythm in the final round. The senior matched his bogey total for the first two rounds in Sunday’s first nine holes, but it was a quadruple bogey on No. 10 that hurt him the most. Ancer added a fifth bogey and a birdie to finish the round with an 8-over 79. Despite a rough final round, Ancer finished in a share of 12th place out of 82 competitors with a 1-over 214.

"I hated to see Abe struggle today because we needed him," Hybl said, "but he will bounce back."

Beau Titsworth rebounded from a 4-over second round with an even-par final round. Titsworth, a freshman, carded a pair of birdies and a pair of bogeys early on the front nine, but turned in a clean sheet on the final nine holes. Titsworth's three-round 217 (+4) earned him a share of 20th place, his second top-20 finish in as many events.

Senior Will Kropp's problems began early with a double bogey on the first hole. Kropp added another double bogey, four bogeys and two birdies to finish the round with a 6-over 77 and a share of 32nd place with a three-round 220.

Charlie Saxon, who struggled in the first two rounds, was essential in the Sooners’ grasp on second place in the final round. With OU's senior golfers out of rhythm, Saxon turned in a 3-over performance in the final round. The sophomore finished the event in a tie for 68th place with a three-round 228 (+15).

Michael Gellerman, competing as an individual, carded two bogeys and a birdie in an otherwise clean final round. The sophomore finished the event in a tie for 10th place at even par.

The Sooners will be back in action Oct. 5-7 when the team travels to Macon, Ga., for the Brickyard Intercollegiate Championship.
