Sooners (9-1) await BCS standings late Sunday.
NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma moved up to No. 3 in the latest polls released
Sunday afternoon. The Sooners (9-1) rose one spot
in the AP, Coaches and Harris polls after then-No.
1 Ohio State dropped a 28-21 decision at home against
Illinois.
OU defeated Baylor, 52-21, Saturday
night at Owen Field.
OU, trailing only No. 1 LSU (9-1) and No. 2 Oregon (8-1),
leads a trio of Big 12 teams in the top six. Undefeated
Kansas (10-0) is at No. 4 with Missouri (9-1) at No.
6. Mizzou's loss at Oklahoma is the Tigers' only blemish.
Texas (9-2) was ranked No. 11-12 in the three polls.
Sunday also marked the 351st week that Oklahoma
was ranked in the top five of the AP poll. Initiated
in 1936, the AP has issued 966 weekly polls to date.
In more than one-third of the polls (36%), Oklahoma
has been ranked in the top five. No team in college
football history has been ranked more times in the
AP top five than Oklahoma. OU and Notre Dame are tied
for the most weeks ranked No. 1 at 95 each.
