The starting quarterback position for the 2009 season was decided on Jan. 14 when the reigning Heisman Trophy winner announced he would return to Norman.
Sam Bradford has established himself as one of the most accurate QBs ever to play the college game and spent the offseason honing his ability to read defenses while adding strength and weight.
Bradford has been the national leader in passing efficiency each of the last two seasons, becoming only the third player in NCAA history to do so. For his career, he has completed 565-of-824 passes for 7,841 yards with 86 touchdowns and 16 interceptions.
Last season, Bradford was 328-of-483 for 4,720 yards with 50 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Bradford set an OU single-season record with 4,676 yards of total offense, in addition to setting new marks for career TD passes, season TD passes and single-season passing yards.
Bradford needs just 81 yards to break Jason White's career mark of 7,922 passing yards.
As for the backup behind Bradford, gone is Joey Halzle, who was in that role the past two seasons, but back is Landry Jones, who redshirted last year. Jones' attributes aren't totally unlike those of Bradford and coaches will look to get him snaps as opportunities present themselves.
The third scholarship quarterback on the roster is true freshman Drew Allen, who enrolled at OU in January.
Rounding out the quarterbacks are junior John Nimmo and redshirt freshman Ben Sherrard.
