NORMAN, Okla. -- With the 2007 football season opener just weeks away, anticipation is mounting for fans awaiting the arrival of their season tickets. Tickets are scheduled to be mailed out at the end of this week.
Featuring the official logo adopted by the Oklahoma Centennial Commission commemorating the 100th anniversary of Oklahoma's statehood, the 2007 Sooner football tickets link the impact each institution has had on the other. As stated on the tickets, while the Sooners actually pre-date Oklahoma's admittance to the Union by 13 years, the two have reveled in each other's success and pulled from each other's strength for so long that they are now nearly one in the same. For many, you can't say 'Oklahoma' without saying 'Sooners'.
The 2007 tickets feature a selection of record-setting team and individual performances from Oklahoma's football tradition. Included are the NCAA-record 47-game winning streak in the '50s, the 1971 team's record 472.4 rushing yards per game and Antonio Perkins' three punts returned for touchdowns against UCLA in 2003. As always, it reverts back to the central theme: "There's Only One Oklahoma!"
"Our goal every year is to celebrate the storied tradition of Oklahoma football and also to honor the present," Billy Ray Johnson, Assistant Athletics Director for Ticket Operations, said. "Oklahoma football has played a role in the entire state's history, and while it is just a part, our success over the last 100 years is something we're extremely proud of."
"The design of the football season tickets is a time-consuming process and something we take great pride in," Johnson said. "Scott Matthews (Director of Graphic Design) does a great job and we feel this year's tickets appropriately tie in the success of Oklahoma football with that of the entire state."
