NORMAN, Okla. -- Senior cornerback Demontre Hurst has accepted an invitation to play for the West in the annual East-West Shrine Game. Beginning in 1925, it is the longest-running all-star college football game.

The 2013 edition is scheduled to be played Jan. 19 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. (CT), and the game can be seen on the NFL Network.

"I'm excited for the opportunity to play in the East-West Shrine Game," Hurst said. "I appreciate all of the support that I received from my coaches and teammates during my career at the University of Oklahoma, and will always be grateful for the chance to play in front of our great Sooners fans. I look forward to showcasing my skills in this all-star contest."

A starter at cornerback in all 13 games this season, Hurst finished fourth on the team with 59 tackles and was second with nine pass breakups. He registered one sack on the year and added a fumble recovery.

In his career, the Lancaster, Texas, native played in 53 games with 40 starts and recorded 178 tackles, 10.0 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks and two interceptions for 104 yards. In addition, he broke up 33 passes, forced four fumbles and recovered three fumbles.

Hurst is the first Sooner to play in the East-West Shrine Game since Jonathon Nelson suited up for the East in 2011, and it marks the fifth time in the last six years that Oklahoma will be represented in the game.
