NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma punter Tress Way has been named a freshman All-American by the Football Writers Association of America.  The team is sponsored by AON Insurance.

Way punted 61 times for an average of 45.7 yards, which ranked No. 1 in the Big 12 Conference and No. 3 nationally.  It was the second-best punting average in school history, first among punters with at least 35 attempts.

Only 17 of Way’s punts were returned, and those returns netted just 30 yards.  OU ranked No. 2 nationally in punt return defense.

The Tulsa native unleashed 22 kicks of at least 50 yards and had 17 downed inside the 20.
