Coaching Accomplishments
OU's ends combined for 21 tackles for loss in 2001, including 18 by Jimmy Wilkerson, who converted to the position during season. Both Wilkerson and Cory Heincke were All-Big 12.
In 2000, both starting ends, Corey Callens and Cory Heinecke, were HM All-Big 12 picks.
Under Wright's guidance, All-Big 12 receiver Mike Adams broke every Longhorn record in 1996 and wideout Wane McGarity, who moved from running back, caught 14 passes for 277 yards and four touchdowns in the final six games.
Developed the talents of freshman Texas placekicker Phil Dawson, who earned first-team All-SWC honors as the top-ranked kicker in the nation. Dawson was a semifinalist for the Lou Groza National Award.
His 1995 receiving unit was the best in the SWC where it averaged 16.8 yards per catch (107 catches for 1,796 yards and 10 touchdowns). It featured first-team All-SWC performer Mike Adams, the SWC's leading receiver.
Helped lead North Texas to a 1983 conference crown and the I-AA playoffs.
Was on the coaching staff that led Texas A&I to the 1979 Division II national title.
