Draft Notes |
Since the first NFL draft in 1936, 363 Sooners overall have been selected.
Oklahoma's 363 all-time picks rank OU first in the Big 12 and fourth overall nationally.
 Forty-three Sooners have been selected
in the first round (including a program-record four in 2010).
OU has three overall No. 1
picks: Sam Bradford (2010), Billy Sims (1980) and Lee Roy Selmon (1976).
 OU's Brian
Bosworth was the No.
1 pick in the 1987 supplemental draft by the Seattle
Seahawks.
OU supplied the first overall No. 1 pick (Sam Bradford, 2010) in Big 12 Conference history.
The first Sooner ever drafted was All-American J.W. "Dub" Wheeler by
the Packers in 1936.

Since the NFL introduced the draft in 1936, Oklahoma has been the most consistent program in the nation in supplying talent to the pros. A Sooner has been selected in 76 of the 78 NFL Drafts (only misses were in 1995 and 1962). Notre Dame (75 of 78) and USC (73 of 78) follow OU:

With Sam Bradford No. 1, Gerald McCoy No. 3 and Trent Williams No. 4, Oklahoma became the first school ever to supply three of the first four NFL Draft picks (three schools had three of the first five: Notre Dame in 1946, Michigan State in 1967, USC in 1977). The four first-round picks were a program record for OU.
2010 marked only the second time that one school has produced the top pick in consecutive NBA (OU's Blake Griffin went first in the most recent hoops draft) and NFL Drafts. The other time it occurred was when Notre Dame produced Austin Carr (No. 1 in the 1971 NBA Draft) and Walt Patulski (No. 1 in the 1972 NFL Draft). Those drafts were separated by 309 days. Bradford and Griffin were separated by 301 days.
The franchise that has selected the most Sooners is the Cardinals at 38. The Bears and Rams are next at 26. The only franchise that has never drafted an Oklahoma player is Houston, which began operations in 2002. Otherwise, the longest drought in drafting an OU player belongs to the Seattle Seahawks, who took Brian Bosworth in the 1987 Supplemental Draft.
