OU's average attendance in 2008 for six home games was 85,075 including a record crowd of 85,646 who jammed Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium to watch the Sooners defeat Texas Tech, 65-21, on November 22. OU has compiled a 65-2 record at home (.970) under head coach Bob Stoops. Not coincidentally, the past nine seasons all rank at the top of the list for average home attendance.
Oklahoma ranked No. 12 in average home attendance for the 2008 season. OU was one of four Big 12 Conference teams ranked in the top 25 in terms of average home attendance.
Oklahoma ranked No. 5 in the nation in percent of stadium capacity filled for a home game. OU averaged 85,075 fans per game with an official stadium capacity of 82,112 or 103.61% capacity.
With the expansion of Oklahoma Memorial Stadium to an official capacity of 82,112 and with every home game exceeding that capacity, Oklahoma set numerous attendance records in 2008. In fact, the top 10 largest crowds in Memorial Stadium history have occured in the past four seasons. The largest crowd ever to watch a game in the history of the state of Oklahoma jammed Memorial Stadium on November 24, 2008. The No. 5 Sooners throttled No. 2 and previously-undefeated Texas Tech, 65-21, in front of 85,646 fans.
The 2008 Texas Tech game also ranks No. 9 in the all-time list of record crowds to watch the Sooners play regardless of location.
