All-American: Plato Andros

Rufus Alexander
Plato Andros

Plato Andros, G - 1946
Plato Andros earned All-America honors in 1946. After spending more than four years fighting with the Coast Guard against Nazi submarines in World War II, he came back to Norman to finish his career with the Sooners.

The all-conference selection was an outstanding blocker on offense. Most believe his dominant play on defense clearly distinguished what a great player he was. During the 1946 season, the Sooners faced top-ranked Army. The Cadets hadn't lost in three years, but at halftime the Sooners had the game dead-locked at 7-7. OU's defense, led by Andros, held Heisman Trophy winner Glenn Davis to 19 yards on 12 carries, his all-time low, and zero points.

Andros was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams during the seventh round in 1947.
