All-American: John Rapacz

Rufus Alexander
John Rapacz

John Rapacz, C - 1946
John Rapacz earned All-America honors in 1946. The two-time all-conference center was one of the top blockers in the country.

His power helped get HB Joe Golding the highest rushing average for one game, 23.4 on seven runs for 164 yards, against Kansas State in 1946.

Rapacz's outstanding play in the 1947 Gator Bowl helped OU win its first bowl game in school history. The Sooners destroyed North Carolina State, 34-13, and racked up 270 total yards behind the blocking of Rapacz.

He was drafted by the Cleveland Browns during the seventh round in 1947.
