OU History & Tradition
The Sooners and great college football. For as long
as anyone can remember the two have been one and the
same. Unlike some schools where tradition represents
ancient history, or others where it harkens back only
a few years, OU's tradition is a constant accomplishment
unfettered by eras or time.

SOONERS WIN SUN BOWL
Berry Tramel of the Oklahoman: "Landry Jones' and Ryan Broyles' pitch-and-catch chemistry set records. Stanford tailback Toby Gerhart was so beaten up, his biceps were redder than his Cardinal jersey. A batch of guys who you never thought would play in a pivotal game -- David King and Jaz Reynolds and Eric Mensik..."

The combination of Landry Jones and Ryan Broyles was almost unstoppable for the Sooners. And while OU's steely defense couldn't quite stop Toby Gerhart, yards were hard to come by for the Heisman Trophy runner-up. Broyles set a Sun Bowl record with three touchdown receptions, Jones passed for 418 yards and Oklahoma slowed Gerhart just enough to beat No. 19 Stanford 31-27.

Stewart Mandel of Sports Illustrated: "There's no question Gerhart is an exceptional player, but at least part of his increased production this season was due to the emergence of Luck, a gifted downfield passer. On his Sooner career:
"I loved my experience here. It's been a learning experience, a lot of ups and downs. But something I can learn from. I have lived in every moment, but it's still flown by. It seems like yesterday I was moving in. It went by pretty fast."
On this trip being business as usual:
"It's always business with us, nothing is light-hearted, it's still a game that needs to be played and we want to win. Of course we are taking it seriously and it's not light hearted. It's a business trip and that is what we are focused on. We are having fun after practice, but when we get up in the morning we know we have meetings and practice coming up, that is our focus."
Senior LB Ryan Reynolds
On facing Toby Gerhart:
"Personally, lining up across from him, it's going to be exciting. I am looking forward to the challenge."
On time flying by at OU:
"It feels like just yesterday I got to the dorms. Now all of a sudden I am about to leave for good. That part of it (the rehab) was slow, that was a grind. Looking back at it now, I guess it's easy at the end to say it went by quick, but there were some times that it was going by slow."
Senior OL Trent Williams
On potentially playing center:
"I've never played center before in my life, so it's a work in progress. I have the great help of my teammates and coaches, I'll be able to get through it. I haven't played center since two-a-days, and now it's all coming back to me. Having Ben (Habern), (Brian) Lepak, and even Brody, Brody played some center, so they are all in my ear every practice helping me out."
OU BOWL NOTES FROM EL PASO

BROYLES A BRIGHT SPOT
John Hoover of the Tulsa World: "With just 36 yards against Stanford in the Sun Bowl on Thursday, Oklahoma sophomore Ryan Broyles would be just the fourth Sooner to surpass 1,000 receiving yards in a season. "That really is one of the accomplishments I set for this year," Broyles said, "and I'm not too far off..."

On receiving some of the honors after a stellar season:
"I was so thankful. I was calling my dad because the second team All-Big 12 and everything like that was really awesome. I just really wanted that freshman All-American. That was just something a lot of my friends, I was competing with Quinn Sharp from Oklahoma State and Jeff Lock at UCLA, we were all kind of competing against each other and it was definitely an honor and I was really excited about it."
Senior RB Chris Brown
On the importance of the running game giving Landry Jones confidence:
"Most definitely. Playing against Stanford, they're a great opponent and we've watched a lot of film on these guys. We have to help rally around him (Landry) and help boost his confidence."
On playing opposite Toby Gerhart:
"I think it's a personal little challenge, our running backs going up against those guys. He (Gerhart)is a great player, a runner-up in the Heisman (race). We have our work cut out for us. We are going to come out and try to execute things that we have to, to make us successful in this game."
Senior RB DeMarco Murray
On playing in his first bowl game: "It feels good. I think it's my first bowl game. Everybody is happy to be here. We are doing good (today), a good first day of practice just getting use to the altitude up here and getting use to El Paso. It's very exciting. I feel like this could be a huge game for me. I am honored to be here playing for the Sooners."
