Return to Recap
|| Head Coach Bob Stoops
"I want to say congratulations to TCU on a hard fought game; I am really proud of some of our players who have fought through adversity to come out with the win. It was just a hard-fought game and in the last game the offense was on the field to get the win, and this week the defense was on the field to get the win."
On the lack of a Big 12 Championship game:
"It isn't anyone's fault that we're in a ten-team league. It's just how it is when you're in a ten-team league. That's what I told the players. The bottom line is, this is our championship game. We don't get go to Atlanta or to Dallas to play it, so it's here. So let's put ourselves in position to win it, and fortunately we did."
On the holding call on TCU:
"I finally got one of those judgment calls. You guys all seem to get on me about that. The other one, the fumble, I had a great discussion with the referee on my sideline. We were laughing and I said, `I'm telling you, I hadn't got one of those all year. We're getting it today.' So we've been on the other side of so many of those and so many not called. Fortunately, they saw it and called it."
On winning against all five Texas teams:
"I guess I never look at anything like that. It's great to do that, but when you're in a league with most of the teams from Texas, you've got to go beat them in Texas. They're all good teams, and this is a tough league. It isn't easy to do. I feel fortunate."
On the TCU defense:
|| Senior QB Landry Jones
"TCU's defense is one the of the top one or two defense that we've played this season. I credit those guys. They were playing hard and they were playing physical. We were a bit off here and there, but they did a great job of getting us off of our rhythm."
On TCU's quarterback Boykin:
|| Sophomore DE Chuka Ndulue
"That quarterback is a runner, he's fast, so we needed to always keep an eye on him. Overall it was a well-matched and good game."
|| Head Coach Gary Patterson
"We had a chance to win the game, simple as that. We gave up an easy touchdown when a couple of freshmen blew an assignment. We need to find a way to score. We had our chances. If we would have made the first field goal, I probably would have gone for it on fourth down when we made the second one. We just have to make plays."
"They have a good football team, they were playing for a BCS spot. We had them at home, and we didn't do a lot, especially on third-down. We got some big plays, but we allowed them short fields. Defensively, I thought they played well. You have to give coach Stoops and Oklahoma a lot of credit. We didn't play well on third downs. We probably would have had a couple of interceptions in that game if we focused better."
On perception of TCU football:
"I think the perception has already changed. We lost an overtime game to Texas Tech, and we played a quarterback who was practicing as running back all week in another loss. We also played Kansas State well. What I told them in the locker room is that we need to keep getting better. We will probably be playing a Big Ten team in a bowl game, and we need to find a way to get to eight wins. We have a chance to get stronger, get healthier and do well in finals. We need to do what good programs do."
On his respect for this year's team:
"It has been a long season. Like I have said before, it has been a tough season what these kids have gone through and had to put up with. A lot of that is not their fault. All they have had to do was do what they needed to do."
On play of defenses:
"I think you saw two good defenses. The wind played a little bit of a part of the game. The winds blew against Texas Tech, but that didn't slow anybody down. There were a lot of coverage changes and different blitzes by both teams. We were playing guys all over the place so you have to come with both guns blazing. They were getting the ball out of their hands very quickly. Our corners played well for the most part."
On the game:
|| RB Matthew Tucker
"It was big, we didn't make the plays and they did well. We cannot blame this on anyone; we just have to move on. OU's defense was good and made palys. We just needed to get more physical with them and we didn't.
On wide receiver Brandon Carter:
"He was pumped up in pregame. He came up to me right before the game and said `Yo, Tuck man lets get it, lets go.' He had a good game.
On his emotions for the last game:
"I was hyped up, ready to get on the field for the last time. But, we lost, so we have to move on and go to the bowl game."
On losing the hard-fought game:
|| DB Sam Carter
"We didn't make enough plays, same thing as any loss. We knew we had to come out and make no mistakes on defense. Those guys play at a high level. Landry Jones and the receivers do a good job."
On OU's huge third-down conversion for a touchdown:
"I didn't do my job. I felt I should have made a play right there, but I didn't. I just know that play was big, and with the final score being 24-17, you never know what could have happened [if TCU stopped OU on the play]."
On the secondary since the 2011 Baylor game:
"We have improved a lot, but we have a lot to improve on. We're never satisfied."
On Verrett's shutting down of Kenny Stills:
"It makes it a lot easier when you only have to defend 10 guys. Jason's a great player and he was working all summer, and he'll be even better next year."
On his huge interception return:
"Coach made a great defensive call and I did my job to get the interception."
On Kenny Cain's last home game and how he will be missed next year:
"We're going to miss Kenny. He was a great linebacker here and we're going to try not to think about him leaving and focus on finishing out this year."
