Tech 41, OU 13 | Nov. 21, 2009 | Lubbock, Texas
Return to Recap
|| Head Coach Bob Stoops
"I give my compliments and congratulations to Texas Tech. Their team really played well and
really beat us on both sides of the ball. It was pretty obvious that offensively we would move the
ball to some degree but not produce touchdowns. Defensively, they rushed the ball a lot on us.
We knew that was a big factor in the game. Again, compliments to Tech and really disappointed
in our defense's effort. They just can't allow them to run the football the way they did and outside
of that we never could get the stops. We couldn't produce the stops that we needed when we
needed them. They executed and we didn't."
On the defense sort of giving up and not playing hard for the first time this season:
"I think it's the first time all season that our defense has looked that way. I don't think it's fair to
say that they gave up. They weren't as sharp as they have been all year. Therefore, again you
On not being able to stop the run:
"They executed it and blocked it better than we were able to get off blocks and tackle. They didn't
come up with any new run plays. It's what we worked on the whole week and again, they
executed better than we were able to defend it."
On the penalties and if Tech's defense did anything to throw them off their game plan:
"Yeah, they played well. We were three-of-13 on third downs so they're making third-down stops
and we're not able to make those plays and you're off the field continually. Then we give up a
turnover as well to give them good field position."
On the poor play of quarterback Landry Jones:
"Again, I think you're isolating one guy and I don't know think that's fair either. It's fair to
offensively say that that's the case and your quarterback is a part of that but receivers dropping
balls doesn't help. Their supporting cast has to be there as well and we haven't been good away
On coming out at half only down 17-6, was there still plenty of hope:
"Yeah, you still have a legitimate shot. Sure, you still feel like you have a great opportunity. (On
the 90-yard drive) Yeah, that doesn't give you a lot of confidence after that, but in the end, we
didn't come out of halftime very well and they went on a long drive."
With the good defenses on both teams, was there a feeling that this may be a low scoring
"Well, you never know but I thought we'd play better defense than that."
On the secondary struggling:
"Everybody struggled. Defense, again, when you allow them to run the football like that they have
you on your heels and they're not a team you can play on your heels."
|| Sophomore WR Ryan Broyles
On going from 55 points last week to only a touchdown today:
"We just came out and couldn't make the big downs when we needed them. We didn't make big
catches. We didn't make big blocks when we needed them."
On whether Tech did anything to knock OU out of a rhythm:
"No, I wouldn't say that. We just didn't come to play."
On his touchdown at the end of the game:
"I know everyone is making a big deal about me celebrating, but I'm out there playing. I feel
passionate about the game. It hurts even talking about it right now. It's a long game, and things
didn't work out our way."
On losing to a team that has also lost four games:
"I am really at a loss for words. We really just got outplayed more than anything. It's been a long
season. We've still got another game left, and we are going to prepare for that one."
|| Junior DE Jeremy Beal
On Tech's long drives:
"It's very disappointing when they'd have a long drive like that and we couldn't stop them,
especially since they ran the ball so well. It's kind of disappointing because they just outplayed
On if it's even more disappointing with the defense playing well all year:
"Definitely. When the defense has been playing so well throughout the whole year, it's
disappointing to come in here and have a performance like this. It's always disappointing."
On whether OU came apart or not:
"I don't know if we came apart or not. I guess we didn't have the focus. A lot of credit (goes) to
them. I guess we didn't come prepared to play the game."
|| RS Freshman QB Landry Jones
On OU's ability to go vertical in the second half:
"I think we did a good job, and Ryan (Broyles) did a good job getting vertical on those guys. The
offensive line gave me time all game. It was good to see us do that, but we came up short, and
we can't play this way if you are expected to win on the road."
On OU's struggles on the road this season:
"I think it's something that has to do with intensity. Going on the road, you just can't expect
something to happen; you've got to make it happen. You have to create your own energy and
stuff like that we've been kind of talking about in practice, and that's what we were hoping to do
today. We just didn't get it done. We didn't execute the plays we needed to. I didn't play very
good, and obviously I need to play better for us to win."
