NORMAN, Okla. -- From Sept. 15 to the official start of practice on Oct. 14, college basketball teams are allowed to work out on the court as a full squad for up to two hours a week. The 2011-12 Sooners held their first skills instruction session last Friday, and SoonerSports.com was there to capture a mic'd up head coach Lon Kruger teaching and encouraging his new team.

Kruger was hired April 1 after spending the last seven seasons at UNLV, where he helped the Runnin' Rebels to an impressive 161-71 (.694) record. The last five seasons, UNLV averaged more than 25 wins and made four NCAA Tournament appearances as well as an NIT showing.

A two-time Big Eight Player of the Year at Kansas State in the 70's, Kruger is beginning his 26th season as a head coach at the collegiate level. He owns a 479-304 (.612) career record and is one of five coaches in NCAA Division I history to take four different schools to the NCAA Tournament.

Kruger's Sooners return nine players from last season, four of them starters. OU welcomes back 76 percent of its point and rebound production from last year, as well as 80 percent of its assist total.

Oklahoma begins the 2011-12 season Nov. 1 when it hosts an exhibition game against Northeastern (Okla.) State at 7 p.m. The regular season starts Nov. 11 with a home game against Idaho State, also at 7 p.m. Click here for ticket information or to purchase tickets. Season ticket packages cost as little as $99.
