NORMAN, Okla.   -- The Big 12 Championship sure had a familiar feel for Oklahoma Wednesday.

And that's not such a great thing.

Once again, the Sooners put themselves in position to win late in the game, but once again OU didn't make the plays, didn't get the stops and ultimately didn't get the win.

And because of it, the season is over for OU.

The Sooners lost to Texas A&M 62-53 in the first round of the Big 12 Championship and OU's first season under coach Lon Kruger is done with a 15-16 record.

OU never led in the second half, but certainly had its chances. The Sooners and the Aggies were tied at 39-39 with 9:10 to play but OU never could take the lead, turning it over twice and missing two shots after knotting the game. A&M then scored the next six points.

Just like in recent losses to Texas, Iowa State, Baylor and Missouri, OU came undone late.

"Obviously, they converted," guard Sam Grooms said. "It was more so on our part. Give them credit, but we have to finish plays."

Behind 52-47 with just less than 3 minutes left, OU forced a stop, but A&M was able to get an offensive rebound, took more time off the clock and Khris Middleton made a 3-pointer for an eight-point lead that left less than 2 minutes to play.

The loss also continued another trend. OU was outscored in the second half for the 17th time in 19 games against Big 12 opponents this season.

"When you don't win a lot of games, consistency is going to be a problem," Kruger said.

Romero Osby had 17 points and Grooms added 13, but no other Sooner had more than eight points. Leading scorer Steven Pledger was held to just six points and missed all four of his 3-point shots.

A&M, which will take on top-seeded Kansas at 2 p.m. Thursday, had four players in double figures, led by Middleton's and David Loubeau's 15 points each.
The Sooners led by as many as five points with 9 minutes left in the first half, but trailed 27-22 at halftime.

"They worked hard all year," Kruger said of his players. "Despite what it looked like tonight, (we) made a lot of progress."
