Oklahoma Postgame Notes

OU 80, Gardner-Webb 76

Nov. 22, 2008

• Playing its 500th game at Lloyd Noble Center, No. 12 Oklahoma (4-0) remained undefeated on the year with an 80-76 victory over Gardner-Webb.  The Sooners now hold a 428-72 (.856) record at LNC.

• Preseason AP first-team All-American Blake Griffin notched his fourth consecutive double-double with a career-high 35 points and a career-high-tying 21 rebounds. Griffin joined Alvan Adams (14 straight), Garfield Heard (11 straight), Ernie Abercrombie (four straight) and Wayman Tisdale (four straight) as the only OU players with at least four consecutive double-doubles.

• Griffin’s 35-point performance is the highest scoring output by a Sooner since Jason Detrick also netted 35 against Colorado in 2004.

• It was Griffin’s fourth straight contest with at least 18 rebounds (no other Sooner had ever grabbed 18 or more in three consecutive games).  Entering today, no other Big 12 player had recorded more than a single double-double this season.

• Griffin dished out a team-high five assists, tying his career best (versus Colorado on Feb. 9, 2008).

• Griffin’s 18 points in the opening stanza marked a career high for points in a half.

• The Griffins combined for six steals (three apiece). The duo shares the OU team lead with 11 steals each on the year.

• Willie Warren added 17 points and four assists in 31 minutes of action.  Warren has scored in double figures in all four contests and is averaging 15.3 ppg on the year.

• Taylor Griffin also reached double figures with 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting.

• The Sooners surpassed the 80-point mark for the fourth straight outing, their most consecutive contests over the 80-point plateau since the 2003-04 season.

• OU was 6-for-15 (.400) from 3-point distance in the first half, but connected just once on 12 attempts from long range after intermission.

• Oklahoma’s 27 3-point attempts tied its season high from a year ago (USC – Nov. 29, 2007).

• OU’s nine blocks marked its most since Dec. 28, 2006, against SMU.  The Sooners also notched 13 steals, their highest tally since Jan. 30, 2007, against Longwood.

• Oklahoma improved to 2-0 all-time against Gardner-Webb.  Last year in New York City, Oklahoma posted a 69-55 November win over the Bulldogs in the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic consolation game.

• Sophomore guard Cade Davis did not play due to a sprained ankle.
