Game Notes

OU 72, No. 5 Kansas 66 | February 9, 2013 | Norman, Okla.

Return to Recap

  Oklahoma Team Notes

Oklahoma led the majority of the game in a 72-66 win over No. 5/5 Kansas to end a two-game losing streak and improve to 15-7 overall and 6-4 in the Big 12. Kansas lost for the third straight game and fell to 19-4 and 7-3.

The win was OU's first over an AP top-five opponent since beating Texas 82-72 on Jan. 28, 2006. It also snapped a 10-game losing streak against the Jayhawks.

Oklahoma's 15 wins match its total last season (finished 15-16) and are more than in the 2009-10 (13) or 2010-11 (14) campaigns. Its six Big 12 wins are more than in any of the previous three seasons. OU has eight games remaining in the regular season.

OU improved to 8-3 this year in games decided by seven points or less. It was 4-5 last year under the circumstance.

Kansas led for just 1:35 of the game and never by more than three points (5-2). OU took the lead for good (20-18) on a Cameron Clark basket with 9:59 left in the first half. The Sooners led 38-34 at halftime and went up by as many as nine twice in the second half. KU drew to within one point with 4:58 and 4:13 left in the game.

The Sooners' 72 points were their most against the Jayhawks in the last six meetings. OU had scored more than 72 just once (78 in 2009 in Norman) in the last 13 meetings against KU.

Kansas entered the game holding opponents to a .356 field goal mark on the year, but the Sooners posted a .448 mark today (.556 in the first half).
OU finished with seven 3-pointers to KU's five, marking just the second time in Big 12 play the Sooners made more treys than their opponent (OU made eight to Oklahoma State's six on Jan. 12). Entering the day, Oklahoma had 34 3-point makes in nine league games while opponents had 67.

The Sooners are home again on Monday when they host TCU at 6 p.m. (televised by ESPNU).
