CHANDLER, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma baseball team visited the Willow Spring Boys' Ranch in Chandler, Okla., on Oct. 20 for the fourth consecutive year.
The day was filled with interaction with the kids and various duties around the grounds that included weed eating, mowing, hauling trash, setting up trails, clearing out trees and cleaning up around new construction.
The coaches and players ate dinner with the boys and the ranch's staff at Jacob's Ladder in the evening. The Sooners then concluded the day with some team-building exercises on the ropes course.
"This visit is one of our program's traditions and something the coaches and returning players look forward to each year," said OU Head Coach Sunny Golloway. "It not only helps bring our team closer together, but allows us to give back to the community that supports our program.
"We want to thank the staff for welcoming us back again this year and we look forward to continuing our relationship with Willow Springs."
Willow Springs Boys' Ranch is a long-term residential childcare facility that accepts applications from boys between the ages 7 to 12 years old. Boys are able to live on the ranch until they graduate from high school, obtain their G.E.D. or participate in an independent living program after graduation.
It is the program's goal to provide an environment where boys can become successful and develop into productive adults.
"I am grateful for all that the OU Baseball Team does for Willow Springs Boys' Ranch," said J. Todd Vinson, the Founder and Executive Director. "I want to thank the players and coaches for another great day today. We appreciate their help, their hearts, and their character."
