NORMAN, Okla. -- The Red team rebounded in game three of the annual Red/White Series on Thursday with a 2-1 victory.  The Red team took a 2-1 lead in the five-game series after connecting for two runs off nine hits, which was just enough to give junior Jason Chowning the win and junior Mehdi Djebbar the save.

White won game two on Tuesday, 13-0, after the Red squad claimed victory in game one, 3-1.

Chowning’s start lasted 4 1/3 innings and saw the right hander allow one run off two hits and three walks.  Chowning also struck out four batters and was relieved by Djebbar, who closed the door with one hit and two strikeouts over the final 2 2/3.

The Red’s offense provided just enough run support in the victory as junior Kaleb Herren and senior J.T. Wise produced back-to-back RBI singles in the fourth inning to erase White’s 1-0 lead.

Herren and Wise each connected for two base knocks on the afternoon while teammate Bryant Hernandez had a game-high three hits (two doubles).

Senior C.J. Blue took the loss for the White team despite five strong innings.  Blue struck out five and did not walk a batter but surrendered two runs off eight hits.

Junior Levi Rhoades came in for Blue and allowed one hit and a walk in the sixth inning.

“I was proud of another strong showing by our pitching staff,” said OU Head Coach Sunny Golloway.  “The offenses did not score as many runs as they probably wanted, but there were still a number of hits in the game and the Red team got the timely hits.”

Junior Jamie Johnson led the White squad’s offense with a RBI single in the third inning and came up to the plate in the final inning with a chance to tie the game at two runs apiece.

With one out in the seventh, Djebbar walked freshman Chris Ellison, who stole second base before Johnson popped out to Hernandez at short.  Djbarr walked sophomore Tyson Seng before forcing junior Aaron Baker to fly out to right field.

Jeremy Erben will make the start for the White team in game four and throw opposite Antwonie Hubbard at 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 17.  The fifth and final game of the series, which will conclude fall practice for the Sooners, is set for 10 a.m. on Saturday and both of the remaining games are free and open to the public at L. Dale Mitchell Park.
