Pitching Leads Red to Game One WinOct. 13, 2008
Richards struck out five batters and allowed two hits and zero walks across four of the seven-innings played. The Edmond, Okla., native received all the run support needed in the third inning during his start for the Red team. In the decisive frame, junior Elliott Blair and freshman Jordan Imhoff hit a pair of solo home runs and senior J.T. Wise drove in the other run off a double to left field. Junior Chase Anderson made the start for the White team and took the loss after surrendering three runs in three innings. Junior Jeremy Erben and freshman Kennedy Winn relieved Anderson and kept the Red offense at bay over the final four innings with three hits allowed. After Richards left the game in the bottom of the fifth, Duke struck out the first of seven batters he faced to begin the frame but then ran into trouble. Junior Bryan Groth doubled to right center and after Winn walked, sophomore Tyson Seng loaded the bases with an infield single. That brought up the top of the order in junior Jamie Johnson who was hit by a pitch to bring in the White team’s only run. Duke struck out the next two batters to end the threat and begin the sixth and seventh innings with a pair of strikeouts to earn the save. Offensively, Wise and Blair each finished with a game-high two hits as the Red squad outhit the White, 7-4. “During the entire fall season, we have stressed the importance of playing clean, fundamental baseball and that is what the Red team did to win today,” said OU Head Coach Sunny Golloway. “It was a well-played game on both sides without an error committed and the Red team got some timely hitting from Elliott and J.T. Game two is set for 2:30 p.m. at L. Dale Mitchell Park on Tuesday, Oct. 14. Junior Andrew Doyle (Red) will pitch opposite sophomore Michael Rocha and the seven-inning game is free and open to the public.
