CHANDLER, Okla. -- For the third consecutive year, the University of Oklahoma baseball team visited the Willow Spring Boys Ranch in Chandler, Okla., on Tuesday, 2.

The afternoon featured interaction with the kids and community service work and was concluded by a campfire dinner and team-building exercises on a rope's course.

OU arrived at the facility in the early afternoon and then the team divided into groups and helped clean up the area by mowing, weed eating and trimming trees, among other duties.

"This trip is becoming a tradition of this program after we first visited the ranch in 2005," said OU head coach Sunny Golloway.  "The day is rewarding for our team on so many levels.  It give us a chance to give back to the community while also bringing the members of this program closer together."

Willow Springs Boys Ranch is a long-term residential childcare facility that accepts applications from boys between the ages 7 to 12 years old. Boys are able to live on the ranch until they graduate from high school, obtain their G.E.D. or participate in an independent living program after graduation.  It is the program's goal to provide an environment where boys can become successful and develop into productive adults.

Once the various landscaping duties were completed, the Sooners shared dinner, campfire style, with the boys at the ranch.

"It is always hard to tell who enjoyed themselves more, the kids or our players," added Golloway.  "Helping out children that are less fortunate, really brings things into perspective.  I think our student athletes walk away from this event each year thankful for how fortunate they to be student-athlete at the University of Oklahoma.

"Today was a great overall experience.   As always, we want to thank the staff for taking the time to allow us to visit and participate in various activities."
