Baseball Begins Fall Practices

Sooners return seven starters from 2008 club

NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma baseball team reported for the first team practice of the fall semester on Thursday, Sept. 4.

The Sooners return seven position starters and 18 letterwinners overall from the 2008 team that advanced to the Tempe Regional Finals before falling to then-No. 4 Arizona State. Among those starters are Aaron Baker, Matt Harughty, Bryant Hernandez, Casey Johnson, Jamie Johnson, Tyson Seng and J.T. Wise.

OU also returns the core of its pitching staff with Chase Anderson, C.J. Blue, Andrew Doyle, Ryan Duke, Jeremy Erben, Antwonie Hubbard, Stephen Porlier, Garrett Richards, Michael Rocha and Tyson Seng.

The returners will be joined by a group of 14 newcomers competing for playing time. A brief bio of each newcomer is listed below. "We are excited to finally get started with this group," said Golloway. "Unlike last season, we return a majority of starters that should help lead a talented group of newcomers."

The Sooners will hold their first intrasquad scrimmage on Friday, Sept. 5 at L. Dale Mitchell Park. The practice is open to the public and is set to begin at 2:30 p.m.
