Oklahoma has won 40 or more games in
four straight seasons, the second longest-such streak in program history behind the stretch recorded from 1984-1989. In addition, the Sooners have advanced to five straight NCAA tournaments and have two Super Regionals and a College World Series appearance in that span. No other returning Big 12 member in 2013 can match that streak.
"As we embark on a new year, we look forward to working with a group of student athletes who we believe understand the rich tradition of Oklahoma baseball," said head coach Sunny Golloway, who enters his eighth full season at the helm of the Sooner program. "The players and coaches have to recognize the hard work and dedication it will take to continue our string of 40-plus win seasons and make it five straight, and compete in the NCAA tournament with a chance to take this program back to the College World Series."
The returning starting pitchers include two of the Big 12's best from a year ago in juniors Jonathan Gray and Dillon Overton. The relievers include Jake Fisher, Drew Krittenbrink and Kindle Ladd,
and redshirt freshmen Adam Choplick and Cole Stevens.
The everyday returning starters in the field include Garrett Carey (3B), Hunter Lockwood (1B), Jack Mayfield (2B), Dylan Neal (C), Matt Oberste (DH) and Max White (OF).
In addition, Dustin Dishman (INF), Dylan Raper (OF), Jake Smith (C) and Dillon Yeaman (OF) all saw time in the field a year ago.
The returners will be joined by a group of 17 newcomers (10 freshmen) competing for playing time. A brief look at each newcomers is listed below.
"This is always an exciting part of the year for Oklahoma baseball," added Golloway. "Today marks the start of our journey to make it back to Omaha. We have a key group of players that return from last year's Super Regional run and we have a talented group of newcomers to join them."
