Summer League Baseball Update #9

NORMAN, Okla. -- Throughout the summer, SoonerSports.com will bring fans weekly updates of current Sooners competing in the numerous summer baseball leagues around the country. Fans can also access information on former Sooners playing in Major League Baseball and its minor league affiliates. The ninth installment, along with links to each of the players' statistics, are listed below: Summer Collegiate League Also playing in the Cape Cod League is Aaron Baker (Warehem Gatemen) and J.T. Wise (Harwich Mariners). Baker has a .255 average and is tied for first on his team with four home runs and 23 RBIs. Wise is batting .350 and has 10 RBIs and a home run. Three Sooners, Matt Harughty, Antwonie Hubbard and Bryan Groth, play for the first place Anchorage Glacier Pilots. Harughty is batting .225 and has 25 hits, one homerun, 15 RBIs and 13 stolen bases. Hubbard has a 2-0 record and has 30 strikeouts and a 2.50 ERA. Groth has a home run and two RBIs in limited action. OKLAHOMA IN THE MINORS Eddie Cornejo has 10 hits over a four-game span for the Tulsa Drillers (Class AA). Over the span he is hitting .563 and has two runs scored and two RBIs. For the season, he is batting .283 and has 12 RBIs and a home run. Ryan Rohlinger continues to shine since being moved up to Class AA with the Connecticut Defenders. On August 2 he had a homerun, an RBI and hit .333 but his team lost 2-1 to New Hampshire. He followed that performance by hitting .400 on August 5 in a 6-2 win over Trenton. For the season, he is hitting .288 with five homeruns and 16 RBIs. Joe Dunigan recorded a 2-for-4 performance at the plate with two hits, two runs, a home run and an RBI on August 5. However, his Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Class A) fell 8-6 to Great Lakes. For the season, Dunigan has 10 home runs, 43 RBIs and 22 stolen bases for Wisconsin. Jackson Williams was promoted to the Advanced-A San Jose Giants earlier this season for his defensive skills at catcher. Since the promotion Williams is hitting .256 and closed out July on a 9-for-20 (.450) tear, with five RBIs. On August 1, a solo homer in a 4-3 loss to the Modesto Nuts. SOONERS IN THE MAJORS Jason Bartlett continues to hit the ball well since returning from the disabled list. Over a four-game span Bartlett has seven hits and four runs. For the season, he has 82 hits, 18 stolen bases and 20 RBIs. David Purcey had a no hitter through three innings in his first MLB start for the Toronto Blue Jays on August 3. However, he allowed three hits in his last two innings and the Blue Jays fell 8-4 to the Texas Rangers. In his previous start, Purcey earned his first big league victory on July 26 against the Seattle Mariners. He lasted a season-high six innings and surrendered three runs off seven hits and a walk.
