Summer League Update No. 4

NORMAN, Okla. -- Throughout the summer, SoonerSports.com will bring fans weekly updates of current Sooners competing in the numerous summer baseball leagues around the country. Fans can also access information on former Sooners playing in Major League Baseball and its minor league affiliates.

The third installment, along with links to each of the players' statistics, are listed below:

SUMMER COLLEGIATE LEAGUE
The Alaska Baseball League (ABL) has concluded its 2009 season. Chris Ellison (Peninsula Oilers) ended the season ranked first on the team in runs scored with 19 and in stolen bases with a perfect 16-for-16 mark. The stolen base total ranked him second in the ABL. Teammate Caleb Bushyhead, finished the season ranked first in games started for the Oilers with 46. The two Sooners tied for second in hits on the roster with 32 apiece.

OKLAHOMA IN THE MINORS
Daniel McCutchen (Indianapolis Indians- Class AAA) has not only been on fire in his last 10 starts, he is having a standout season. McCutchen has won seven of his last 10 starts including a no-decision on August 4 against Durham. He has pitched at least five innings per start, with three games of seven innings pitched. On July 30, McCutchen pitched seven scoreless innings for his 10th victory of the season.

In 2009, McCutchen is 10-6, ranking him second in the International League (AAA) for wins. He has also pitched 116 innings with an impressive 3.80 ERA ranking him 16th in the league.

Meanwhile, Bryant Hernandez (Ogden Raptors) has been on a streak of his own. Hernandez has hit safely in seven of the last 10 games. During his seven-game hitting streak, he has accumulated nine hits, one double, a homer, and three RBIs. Hernandez recorded a career-high three hits on July 25 against Idaho Falls.

SOONERS IN THE MAJORS
Leading the way for the Sooners in Major League Baseball is Jason Bartlett (Tampa Bay Rays).  During his last 10 games Bartlett has posted some impressive stats. Bartlett has hit safely in seven of the last 10 games with 11 hits and eight RBIs.
