NORMAN, Okla. -- Throughout the summer, SoonerSports.com will bring fans weekly updates of current Sooners competing in the numerous summer baseball leagues around the country. Fans can also access information on former Sooners playing in Major League Baseball and its minor league affiliates.
The second installment, along with links to each of the players’ statistics, are listed below:
SUMMER COLLEGIATE LEAGUE
Tyler Ogle (McKinney Marshalls) was named Player of the Week by the Texas Collegiate League on July 21. Ogle earned the week six honor by going 6-for-10 with a double and three RBIs in three games. His efforts in the past week have helped give the Marshals a five-game winning streak. Ogle is second on the team with a .312 batting average.
Chris Ellison (Peninsula Oilers) remains the top Sooner playing this summer up in the Alaskan Summer League. Ellison continues to swing well hitting .263 through 80 at bats this summer. Ellison is also tied for first on the team in multi-hit games (7). Ellison and teammate Caleb Bushyhead are both among the top of the roster in longest hitting streaks with six apiece.
Levi Rhoades (Yorkton Cardinals) has begun play in Canada and has recorded an ERA of 2.87 through 31.1 innings pitched. Pulling double duty, Rhoades is also hitting well through only 11 at bats with a hitting percentage of .545.
OKLAHOMA IN THE MINORS
Headlining the Sooners in the Minors is Antwonie Hubbard who made the jump from the Rookie League to Class A ball. Hubbard has made four appearances with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, an affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, and recorded his first save on July 22.
One of the latest Sooners to join the Minors, J.T. Wise (Ogden Raptors), is still impressive in his early career. In his last 10 games played he has hit .359 with one double, two homeruns and seven RBIs. On July 17, Wise went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, one homerun, and one RBI.
Jamie Johnson (Oneonta Tigers, Class A) is holding his own in the Minors and has seen action in each Tiger contest. On the season, he is hitting .248 with three doubles, two triples and 10 RBIs through 30 games played.
SOONERS IN THE MAJORS
Following the All-Star break, Reggie Willits was called up to the Angeles. Willits has hit safely in four of his last games with six base hits.
With the addition of Willits to the Majors, the Sooners currently have seven players in Major League Baseball.
