NORMAN, Okla. -- Junior Max White was named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Player of the Week on Monday for games played from April 23-29.
It marks the first career weekly honor for White, who was honored by the conference this week alongside Missouri’s Rob Zastryzny (pitcher) and Oklahoma State’s Trey Whaley (newcomer).
White has multiple-hit performances in each of his last seven contests and hit .444 in four games last week (8-for-18) with nine RBI off two doubles and his second homer of the year. In last week’s four games, White slugged at a .722 clip with 13 total bases while scoring four runs. The week ended as OU recorded a two-game sweep at Kansas (finale rained out) with a career-high five RBI from White, including a three-run homer to clinch the series in the fifth inning. He later singled in two runs during OU’s five-run ninth inning.
All five of White’s RBIs in Saturday’s series finale came with two outs on the board and 23 of his team-leading 43 RBI have come in that situation. White also had two hits in the previous three games during the week against Kansas, Dallas Baptist and Oklahoma State.
In the last seven games, White is hitting 16-for-30 (.533) with two homers, three doubles, eight runs, 13 RBI, and an .833 slugging percentage.
On the season, White ranks third in the Big 12 with 43 RBI (ties career high) and fourth in both hits (60) and batting average (.361).
It marks the seventh conference honor won by a Sooner this season, the most by an OU team since Big 12 play began in 1997 (OU had six in 2004).
Most recently, Damien Magnifico was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week on April 16. Freshman Hunter Lockwood was named the player and newcomer of the week on April 2. On March 12, both Dillon Overton (pitcher) and Jonathan Gray (newcomer) were honored and on March 5, Jordan John was named the pitcher of the week.
The Sooners return to action on Monday with a makeup game with Mid America University at 5 p.m. The game was added to replace the rained out game Sunday at Kansas. Admission is free at L. Dale Mitchell Park. On Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. OU travels to TCU for a 6:30 p.m. game.
Following the game in Fort Worth, OU and OSU will tangle in the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Bedlam Series. Friday’s opener in Tulsa is set for 7 p.m. while the series shifts to Oklahoma City on Saturday (7 p.m. ) and Sunday (4 p.m.). All three games will be televised with Friday’s opener on Fox Sports Southwest and the final two games on Cox Ch. 3/703 HD in Oklahoma City and Tulsa.
