The No. 10-ranked University of Oklahoma baseball team heads south of the Red River for its first midweek road game of the 2013 season, battling UT Arlington Tuesday at Clay Gould Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT. KREF 14000 AM and the Sooner Sports Network will carry live audio of the game, with Toby Rowland and former Sooner star Caleb Bushyhead on the call.
The Sooners (11-1) won their weekend series over Pepperdine at L. Dale Mitchell Park. OU topped the Waves Friday in the series opener, 10-7, and bounced back from a 7-2 Saturday loss with an 8-1 victory in the rubber match.
Oklahoma begins Week 4 of the 2013 season ranked No. 10 by Collegiate Baseball, No. 12 by USA Today, No. 14 by the NCBWA, No. 17 by Baseball America and No. 18 by Perfect Game.
Junior infielder Matt Oberste leads an OU offense that is batting .311 as a team with 37 extra-base hits and 74 RBI. The Sooners have plated 10 or more runs in five games this season and have accumulated 10 or more hits in eight games in 2013. Oberste, who began the campaign by capturing back-to-back Big 12 Conference Player of the Week honors, is batting a team-best .444 with a team-high 20 hits -- including a team-high four doubles, two triples and four home runs -- to go along with a team-high 19 RBI. Oberste has now hit safely in 15 consecutive games dating back to the 2012 season.
Oberste is not the only Sooner making an impact at the plate, though. Senior outfielder/infielder Max White is hitting at a .356 clip with 16 hits -- including a double and a home run -- to go along with nine RBI. Freshman outfielder Hunter Haley is batting .320 with eight hits -- including a double, a triple and a homer -- to go along with five RBI. Freshman infielder Kolbey Carpenter is hitting .306 with 11 hits -- including two doubles and two triples -- to go along with four RBI. Junior infielder Hector Lorenzana is batting .304 with 14 hits -- including three doubles and a home run -- to along with five RBIs. Senior infielder Jack Mayfield is hitting .300 with 15 hits -- including three doubles and two home runs -- to go along with eight RBI. Senior infielder Garrett Carey is batting .289 with 11 hits -- including two doubles, a triple and a home run -- to go along with six RBI. Freshman outfielder Craig Aikin is batting .280 with 14 hits -- including a triple -- to go along with four RBI. He has posted four straight multi-hit games
The Mavericks (7-4) dropped the first two games of the UTA/Hilton Invitational, falling to Houston Baptist, 7-6, and Illinois, 7-3, but salvaged the weekend by defeating Illinois, 6-5, and Houston Baptist, 7-5, on Sunday.
OU leads the all-time series over UTA, 20-9, but the Sooners dropped the most recent contest against the Mavericks, 10-3, in Norman in 2012.
Oklahoma closes Week 4 of the 2013 season with a trip to Los Angeles, visiting USC Friday before taking on UCLA and Notre Dame at Jackie Robinson Stadium on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

Carnes made his first two appearances out of the bullpen for OU against Hofstra on Feb. 16 and at Texas A&M Corpus Christi on Feb. 23. He carries an ERA of 3.86 into his first start for the Sooners and has fanned six over 4.2 innings of work.
