Arkansas Drops OU in Game Four
May 30, 2009
NORMAN, Okla. -- The No. 9 Sooners were unable to battle back from an early deficit and fell 17-6 at the hands of No. 21 Arkansas in game four of the NCAA Norman Regional on Saturday. The Sooners jumped on top early as Jamie Johnson scored on a double play ball hit by J.T. Wise. The game's initial score came after OU was threatening with runners on first and third and nobody out. Arkansas' Brett Eibner battled out of the first frame with limited the damage, but OU's Michael Rocha (5-3) was not as lucky. The sophomore surrendered four runs in the first before being replaced by J.R. Robinson. The big blow came on Zack Cox's three-run homer to right field. The Razorbacks never looked back and piled up a combined nine runs in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Andy Wilkins led the way with four hits and four RBIs, while Ben Tschepikow and Zack Cox each drove in three runs. OU's rally in the sixth saw five Sooners cross the plate, but it was not enough as Eibner improved to 5-4 with 5 2/3 innings of work. Jamie Johnson led OU with three hits and Bryant Hernandez, Garrett Buechele and Chris Ellison each collected two base knocks. Oklahoma, the No. 7 national seed, now falls into the loser's bracket to take on Washington State. The Sooners and Cougars will get underway at L. Dale Mitchell Park at 1 p.m. on Sunday. The winner of game five will advance to the championship round of the regional and face Arkansas at 7 p.m. on Sunday. |
