OKLAHOMA CITY  -- The No. 8 Sooners improved to 41-16 with a 5-2 win over Texas Tech in the opening game of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship on Wednesday. 

"I thought our guys really played well, and I think our experience showed up tonight," said OU Head Coach Sunny Golloway. "Our guys understand every game in this Big 12 is extremely important."

Ross Hubbard delivered two key hits and tied a career-high with four RBIs to pace the Sooners' offense.  Jamie Johnson and Casey Johnson added two hits apiece.

"Ross has been in and out of our lineup. He has talent, there's no doubt about that," said Golloway. "I really think Ross Hubbard has a chance to be an outstanding college player as he continues to develop."

That was all the run support Andrew Doyle needed.  He won his eighth game of the year after he limited Texas Tech to four hits and two runs, both unearned, in eight innings of work. 

"I thought tonight was about Andrew Doyle coming back on (short) rest," added Golloway. "He wanted the baseball, and he showed us that tonight."

Ryan Duke recorded his 15th save of the season with a perfect ninth inning.  The save put him in second place all-time at OU in a single season behind Jeff Bajenaru (20). 

The Red Raiders (24-31) took the game's initial lead with two unearned runs off Doyle in the fourth inning.  However, OU battled back to record its 20th comeback victory of the season.

Down 2-0, the Sooners quickly countered in the bottom half of the fourth on Ross Hubbard's first triple of the year.  The extra base hit fell in front of a diving Taylor Ashby in centerfield and plated two runs after the ball rolled to the wall.

After a RBI groundout by Bryant Hernandez that gave OU a 4-3 lead in the fifth, Hubbard struck again in the bottom of the sixth.  The junior delivered a two-run single off the glove of a diving Chris Richburg at first base to give OU a three-run cushion.

The Sooners continue pool play on Friday at 7:30 p.m. against Texas A&M.  The Aggies lost 5-2 to Missouri in their first game of the tournament.  OU's Michael Rocha (5-2, 3.63) will face Brooks Raley (7-2, 3.09) at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark.
