LUBBOCK, Texas -- The Oklahoma Sooners lost 6-1 to Texas Tech on Friday in the series opener at RIP Griffin Park. It marked the first time the Red Raiders found victory in a series opener since 2002.

Texas Tech took an early 1-0 lead as Jamodrick McGruder scored the first of his two runs in the game off Jordan John (3-4), who suffered his third straight loss.

McGruder collected his second triple of the game in the fifth inning and came around to score. That was all the Red Raiders needed as they received stellar defensive play behind Duke von Schamann's (3-3) first complete game. The right hander gave up six hits and one walk in the nine innings of work and the only run that the Sooners scored was unearned.

The Sooners scratched that run across in the eighth inning to avoid the shutout on Caleb Bushyhead's RBI groundout. The grounder scored Garrett Carey, who advanced to third in the previous at-bat, a double to centerfield by pinch hitter Chase Simpson.

That was all the offense the Sooners' could put together, as Max White had three of the team's six hits. White has three multi-hit games in each of his last three outings and leads OU with nine on the season.

Texas Tech finished with 12 hits, including seven extra-base hits, including five doubles and two triples. McGruder led the Red Raiders with three base hits, including the two triples.

The loss dropped Oklahoma to 13-10 overall and 0-4 in Big 12 play while Texas Tech jumped to 15-8 and 1-3.

The teams continue the series on Saturday at 5 p.m. in Lubbock. The game can be heard on the Sooner Sports Network KREF 1400 AM with Toby Rowland calling the action with Craig Moran.
