NORMAN, Okla. -- Cale Coshow pitched five solid innings in his first career appearance and Matt Oberste hit a two-run homer in the sixth as Oklahoma cruised to a 6-2 win in the second game of a home doubleheader on Tuesday. The Sooners won game one, 8-5, to snap a five-game skid.

The sweep upped OU’s record to 13-9 and 5-0 all-time against Air Force (4-14).

The Sooners jumped on top in bottom of the third inning with four runs off two Falcons’ errors and a RBI double by Cody Reine and a RBI triple by Jack Mayfield.

The four-run cushion was all Coshow, a redshirt freshman, needed to earn the victory that included four strikeouts and one walk. He allowed two runs off five hits and was followed by three shutout innings by Ty Taylor and a scoreless ninth by Damien Magnifico.

“It felt great,” said Coshow, a native of Edmond, Okla. “I was just trying to put the team in a position to win.”

Offensively, Max White continued his recent tear that has seen him hit safely in 14 of the last 15 games with seven multi-hit performances. He was joined by Oberste (2-for-4, 2 RBI) and Hunter Lockwood (2-for-4, run) as the Sooners outhit the Falcons 11-10.

Seven of the team’s 11 hits went for extra bases as Lockwood had two doubles and Reine and Garrett Carey also doubled. Mayfield and White both tripled in the contest while Oberste had the team’s lone long ball of the second game.

“I feel like we did a really good job of hitting the ball the other today,” said OU Head Coach Sunny Golloway. “We hit a couple balls in the gap, a couple balls to the opposite corner to both sides of the yard. We had a squeeze bunt, a couple push bunts in there, and I thought we played better defense if you erase the first inning of the day.”

The Falcons tagged Coshow with two runs in the sixth inning, but Oberste helped OU regain the four-run advantage with a two-run blast to left-center field in the bottom half of the frame, his first roundtripper of the year. As a club, the Sooners have hit six home runs in the last five games, including four in the series opener against Texas on Friday.

“We were mad at ourselves after those three losses,” said Oberste about the weekend series against Texas. “We came out with a little fire in our eyes and wanted to get some more wins and build some confidence going into this weekend.”

“It’s a good feeling to get a couple of wins under our belts,” said Lockwood. “Coach G (Golloway) has been stressing to get the little things done right and working on a couple things, and getting a couple kinks worked out. We just have to keep getting better everyday.”

OU returns to Big 12 play and hits the road for the first time in conference action at Texas Tech over the weekend (March 23-25). All three games can be heard on the Sooner Sports Network KREF 1400 AM with Toby Rowland calling the action from Lubbock.
